About

Run by interior designer Ruth Kilgour Salmon, LitterArty is an interior design service that makes having your dream space a reality. We transform interiors and inject personality into spaces through meaningful design and our honest approach.

Considered interiors that fit your lifestyle and do you good

LitterArty was born out of a need to create beautifully considered interiors with real backbone and a deeper purpose.

We’re deeply affected by our environment, and when creating living spaces it’s important the end result does you good. Too often, this seems to be neglected in pursuit of purely trend-driven decor. Likewise, the process should be enjoyable, inspiring, and fun.

There’s also a common misconception that enlisting interior design help is a little intimidating, that it removes any personalisation and you’re met with a hefty price tag. Not true. Great design that brings positivity to the everyday and also works on a practical level is something that should be accessible to all. We want to create spaces that people love, enjoy spending time in and improve wellbeing. LitterArty exists to democratise interior design so that everyone can feel happy and fulfilled in their surroundings.

The story behind LitterArty’s name

The things that transform a space are the personal touches.  We believe surrounding yourself with small pieces that make you happy when you look at them should be the very things you fill your home with. Think personal photographs, your favourite art, a collection of ornaments, a special candle on your coffee table, or treasured books you litter throughout your home.

Meet the lady behind LitterArty

Ruth Kilgour Salmon the interior designer of LitterArty and her little daughter. Creating bespoke design and interiors.

Hi, I’m Ruth

I’m an interior designer and wellness advocate with a background in Art & Design History. Before I became an interior designer, I worked across the fashion and design industries. I’m also experienced in art curation and visual merchandising.

When I’m not obsessing about design and wellbeing, I can be found blasting old scratchy records or dancing away to soul music. I live in Vans, despite having an ‘above average’ collection of other shoes and I’m a risotto connoisseur (with a glass of red in hand).

I can often be found aimlessly wandering around an art gallery or out and about with my husband Dan, our daughter Florence and our little canine sidekicks, Ruby and Albert. My family is everything to me.

If you have any (interiors-related) questions at all, please click here to send me an email.

Positive and progressive change

At LitterArty, we explore, instil, and inform on issues surrounding wellbeing; sustainability; environmental responsibility; and cruelty-free, healthy living and design. We don’t claim to be a fully-sustainable company or to only work with sustainable materials – instead, we set out to practice as much as we can, and where possible, in a responsible and eco-conscious way. To do this, we aim to stay informed and knowledgeable about issues relating to sustainable production and eco-living. That’s why we’ll advise you on the avenues to take in the sourcing of products that support this lifestyle, from furnishings, fabrics, paints, and even everyday household products. And why LitterArty aligns itself with small, UK-based businesses who hold themselves accountable and share our ethos for caring about what they’re putting out in the world.

This commitment to cruelty-free and conscious ethical living flows through LitterArty’s entire business practice. By working with us, and getting involved in the LitterArty way of living, you’re part of a more considered and sustainably aware future, with no compromise to your beautiful interior.
